From Westeros to Metropolis: “House of the Dragon” star Milly Alcock will be the new Supergirl, as James Gunn has now confirmed.

“House of the Dragon” star Milly Alcock (23) has secured the role of Supergirl, it has now been announced. According to US media reports, the actress could make her debut in the film “Superman: Legacy” next year and will then meet, among others, David Corenswet (30) as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan (33), known from “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, as Lois Lane, and Hollywood star Nicholas Hoult (34) as Lex Luthor.

“It’s true. Welcome to the DCU, Milly Alcock!”, James Gunn (57), co-head of DC Studios, confirmed the new addition on Monday on social media. Alcock will also play the lead role in the planned film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”.

She became known for “House of the Dragon”.

Milly Alcock comes from Australia and celebrated her breakthrough with the series “House of the Dragon”, a “Game of Thrones” spin-off. She played a younger version of Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first five episodes of the first season. “Milly is a fantastically talented young actress and I’m incredibly excited that she’s joining the DCU,” said James Gunn in another post. “I first became aware of her on ‘House of the Dragon,’ but her diverse auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl blew me away.”

The new Supergirl version is apparently intended to be in contrast to her cousin Superman, as Gunn explained in late January 2023, according to The Hollywood Reporter: “We will see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth in childhood and raised by loving parents, and Supergirl.” The character “grew up on a rock, a shard of Krypton” and “for the first 14 years of her life she watched everyone around her die and be killed in horrific ways and then came to Earth.”
