Mojang Studios recently organized the Minecraft Live 2023, an event held every year to highlight the new features of its sandbox game, and to interact with the community in a special moment. During the event, the summary of which can be found here, the developers gave an update on sales.
Hold on tight, because it’s huge, Minecraft has sold more than 300 million copies since its release in 2009, 14 years ago. The title of Notchtaken back by Microsofthas never lost popularity, on the contrary, because it only had 200 million copies sold in 2020. A dazzling progression that is enough to make one blush Grand Theft Auto V, the second best-selling game with 185 million copies sold. As saying that Minecraft is not about to lose its status as the best-selling video game of all time.
Mojang Studios is also preparing to celebrate the 15th anniversary of its cult game, and it is now unveiling an infographic revealing some big figures : 8.8 million pickaxes made, 15 million skeletons beaten, 700,000 cakes cooked, 6.7 million diamonds discovered or even 915 km traveled on the back of a pig… every day! But still no smile from the creepers.
