Oppo displays a strategy similar to that of Samsung or Huawei in its time: launching innovative ultra high-end smartphones such as the Find X5 Pro or its future Oppo Find N2 which highlight its know-how and seriousness, with the aim of sell more modest smartphones more easily. The Oppo A57 and A57s, which have just been unveiled, belong to this last category.

Oppo A57: the mini-price from Oppo

The Oppo A57 is clearly the entry level of the Chinese manufacturer. This is a phone with a modest technical data sheet, but which will try to satisfy the less demanding buyers. First criterion for many buyers, autonomy should be satisfactory with a 5000 mAh battery, supposed to last two days according to the brand. The 33W charge should make it possible to refuel without waiting too long, even if we are far from an 80W reserved for the high end. Count 30 minutes to fill up on 50% according to Oppo.

To consume content, it relies on an IPS LCD screen, a not dishonorable technology for this price level. Of a good size, 6.56 inches, it is unfortunately based on an HD + definition (720 x 1612 pixels) which is a little light in 2022. It is helped by two speakers, ensuring a stereo experience. The photo part seems to have to produce some concessions too: 13 megapixels on the main sensor and 8 megapixels on the front.

As a coating, we find the Oppo Glow present on the Oppo Reno 6 or Reno 8 for example, supposed to be more resistant to fingerprints and scratches than a glass or plastic coating that is a little too shiny. Another finish is offered in matte black. The Oppo A57 is just under 8 mm thick with 7.99 mm and is somewhat water resistant, without being able to be completely submerged, with an IPX4 certification. Color OS 12.1, one of the best interfaces on Android in our eyes, animates everything, as well as a very underpowered Dimensity 810 chip.

The Oppo A57 is particularly robust. Oppo writes as follows:

The resistance of the OPPO A57 has been proven in 6 test areas; drop, water resistance, radiation, ambient environment and signal interference, encompassing more than 130 rigorous tests and 320 comprehensive test steps. Power buttons are pressed up to 500,000 times in 6 days in OPPO’s international testing labs, while headphone jacks are subjected to 10,000 insertions to ensure the phone can withstand years for use in everyday life.

Oppo A57S: a slightly more equipped version

The Oppo A57 also exists with an S at the end of its name. This one is especially a little more capable in photos, thanks to the addition of a 50 megapixel sensor capable of producing shots in 12.5 megapixels thanks to the pixel binning 4 in 1. A 2 megapixel depth sensor should theoretically assist with portraits.

For the rest, we find essentially the same technical sheet apart from the chip which goes on a MediaTek Helio G35. Note that an HD+ LCD screen at 250 euros is starting to seem a bit light these days.

Prices and availability A57 and A57S

The Oppo A57 costs 200 euros, while its friend with an S and a better sensor displays 250 euros at the bill.
