Minus six degrees – cold front brings the first white mountain peaks

After the summer and the high temperatures had shown themselves to be persistent, the temperature dropped in Carinthia on Sunday. This brought the first snow on the mountains and partly icy temperatures.

The mountain peaks in Upper Carinthia appeared slightly “sugared” on Sunday afternoon. “We recorded minus six degrees on the Hoher Sonnblick,” explains Nikolas Zimmermann, meteorologist at the Ubimet weather service. But the first greeting of winter is unlikely to last long. Frosty nights, sunny days While there could be sub-zero temperatures in almost all parts of Carinthia in the coming nights, there has already been frost in the mountains above 1,800 meters since Sunday. “Frost is to be expected in the coming nights, especially in the Gurktal Alps,” said Zimmermann in an interview with the “Krone”. The meteorologist also has good news for sun lovers. “While the nights are getting cold, it will be mostly sunny during the day,” says Zimmermann. The mercury in the thermometer is likely to climb to up to 14 degrees.
