Emmanuel Tran, 50, knows that the miracle exists. Every day, he hears it, sees it. The miracle has the smile of her daughter Mayline. “The only proof I have is that she is there,” the father says, turning to the shy young girl, who looks both amused and impressed. Their destiny has become a global event, questioning the limits of science.
Fallen into a coma deemed irreversible after a domestic accident, May 29, 2012, in Lyon, the girl came back to life. This miracle, ten years later, is at the origin of the beatification of Pauline-Marie Jaricot (1799-1862), founder of the Living Rosary, a human chain of prayer that she created in the 19and century. The celebratory mass will take place on Sunday, May 22, at the Eurexpo Lyon exhibition center, transformed for the occasion into an ephemeral cathedral, where more than 12,000 people are expected.
Impressive ? “For us, it’s perfectly harmless, assures Emmanuel Tran. We experienced this miracle long before any official recognition. » The gaze is direct, the voice regular, punctuated by small coughs, as if the man was searching for his words, so as not to betray his daughter, his family, the essence of their destiny. “It’s a magical story, which goes beyond the miracle. Life changes quickly…” says the father, now established in Annecy (Haute-Savoie).
A voice in a dream
He stifles a sob as he remembers his 3-year-old daughter in her hospital bed. In May 2012, an aperitif sausage swallowed askew caused suffocation, oxygen deprivation and several cardiac arrests. Doctors diagnose a deep coma, level 3 – the worst – on the Glasgow Coma Scale, which assesses a patient’s level of consciousness.
“You have your heart ripped out, living in such unbearable pain that you cannot react, speak, scream or move. It empties your body, it stabs you deep, in that unknown zone, which only the most tried in life can know”, writes Emmanuel Tran in his book Saved by a miraclewhich has just been published by Editions Artège.

In this logbook, he describes a strange dream. A month after the accident, he sees in a dream his hands suddenly on fire. A voice advises him to put them on his daughter’s head. “A voice so unique in its signature, that among a thousand I would recognize it. A perfect tone. Not a word, not a syllable that we don’t hear. She is full of love and certainty,” he remembers while miming the scene.
