Miraculous censored: 3 minutes to know everything about the controversial animated series

While the animated series “Miraculous, the adventures of Lady Bug and Cat Noir” is at the heart of the controversy, a little throwback to this phenomenon series made in France broadcast every Sunday on TF1.

TF1

What is it about ?

Marinette and Adrien are two college students almost like the others. At the slightest threat to Paris, they become Ladybug and Cat Noir. Their mission: to capture the Akoumas of the mysterious Papillon who turn Parisians into supervillains.

If the two heroes team up, each ignores the true identity of the other: Marinette does not know that behind Cat Noir hides Adrien, the boy she secretly loves; and Adrien, whose heart beats for Ladybug, doesn’t know that behind the superheroine’s costume hides the nice, airheaded girl in her class…

A series of superheroes made in France

Created by Thomas Astruc, who notably worked on Code Lyoko, WITCH and Totally Spies!, Miraculous, the adventures of Ladybug and Cat Noir is a made in France production with international reach, the series being broadcast in more than 120 countries across the world.

It is also in the French capital that Ladybug and Cat Noir play the superheroes in this fiction mixing adventure, action and romantic comedy. An animated series that fascinates the young audience of TF1. Since its launch in 2015, the channel has indeed regularly managed to find itself at the top of the audience with peaks of more than 900,000 viewers on the Sunday morning time slot.

A success probably due to its main character, Marinette, a modern heroine with whom all little girls can identify. A teenager who is insecure and awkward in front of Adrien, her crush, she reveals herself to be a true leader when she transforms into Ladybug.

A female character adored by all, who is moreover born from “a small miracle“As Thomas Astruc likes to explain. It was one of the young women in his design team who wore a t-shirt with a ladybug that inspired him with this original totem animal.

A great reader of comics since childhood, the author then had no memory of characters whose animal totem was the ladybug, perhaps because “she is not afraid“and that the universe”is fairly identified as a boy, which is a shame“, he remarked before concluding: “I understood all the same that there was something to dig and I developed a whole universe around it“.

A real success story which did not prevent Miraculous from finding itself at the heart of a controversy on Monday when a user reported that part of an episode dealing with the French police had been censored by TF1. If the creator understands the choice of the channel, Internet users have not failed to be indignant.
