Mismatch Super Mario Bros: the blunders and errors of one of the worst video game cinema adaptations

Michel & Michel revisit one of the worst film adaptations of video games in history… with a distinguished guest!

1993-2023. It took thirty years for Nintendo to agree to erase the (very) bad memory of Super Mario Bros and return to the cinema with Super Mario Bros, the film expected on April 5 on our screens. Thirty years during which the live film, worn by Bob “Mario” Hoskins” and John “Luigi” Leguizamo, has remained in the pantheon of the worst video game cinema adaptations.

Hollywood’s first historic attempt to bring a video game success to the screen, Super Mario Bros was a commercial, critical and artistic failure. But the film has generated a real cult during these three decades, to the point of benefiting today from a blu-ray collector’s edition, accompanied by a long documentary which goes backstage behind the scenes of the production (and the disaster) with its main protagonists.

One of the worst video game adaptations: 1.4/5… Super Mario Bros and his nightmarish shooting!

If the feature film by Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel is overall a failure, it has a lot of errors and shooting gaffes that Michel & Michel decipher for you. AlloCiné’s technical specialists are accompanied by a guest expert in video games, Panthaa from JV.com, which feeds the video with its anecdotes and sharp insights. The video can be seen above.
