Missing for 2 years, woman found dead in Google Street View images

In Belgium, an 83-year-old woman had been missing for almost two years. His body was eventually found in a neighbour’s garden thanks to the Google Street View virtual navigation service.

It had been almost two years since Paulette Landrieux was not found. On November 2, 2020, this 83-year-old woman and mother of four children had volatilized. Since then, the police in Andenne, Belgium, had moved heaven and earth to try to find her.

As the media L’Avenir reminds us, many technical and human resources had indeed been deployed to try to find her… In vain. The police had even considered the idea that the octogenarian could have fallen into the Meuse, the local river. But shortly before the file was closed, a police officer decided to resume the investigation. He then tried retrace the last moments of Paulette Landrieux before her disappearance.

The course of the woman discovered a few hundred meters from her home

The policeman then decided to go around the area around the pensioner’s house using Google Street View, which uses images taken by cars driving through the set of streets. And lucky because in one image, he sees Paulette crossing the street. Advancing down the street on the tool, he discovers that the missing woman has gone to one of her neighbours.

The police then quickly go to the scene and find the lifeless body of Paulette Landrieux. Probably fallen, she was lying on an embankment. An autopsy should determine if his death was related to a fall or discomfort. While a helicopter equipped with thermal cameras or even tracking dogs had been mobilized to be able to find her, the octogenarian was finally a few tens of meters from her home without the neighborhood noticing during these two years of mystery.
