Mission Impossible 7: Even Tom Cruise has his limits! He didn’t trust himself to do this stunt from “Dead Reckoning”.

• But even for Cruise there are limits, namely when other people could be in danger.
• For this reason, a scene from “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part 1” went too far for him.

Hollywood stars are not required to do their own stunts. Not only do they perhaps not dare to perform the sometimes life-threatening maneuvers, the insurance companies are also more reassured when trained stunt people jump off cliffs or hang from a flying airplane.

Tom Cruise is a big exception here, as the action star does almost all of his own stunts, and that’s what has become a hallmark of the Mission: Impossible movies. It’s now easy to disguise when a star has been doubled in a stunt, but Cruise’s own stunts allow the camera to stay very close to the action, making the action more exciting, more tangible, more realistic.

For “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part 1”, the seventh film in the series, the stunts should again trump all previous parts. But Pom Klementieff, who plays the antagonist Paris in the film, reveals that one scene went too far for Tom Cruise.

Tom Cruise doesn’t want to hurt anyone

In a scene in Venice, Tom Cruise’s MIF agent Ethan Hunt meets Klementieff’s Paris and a fight ensues. However, Cruise wanted to stick to the choreography exactly and not accidentally really hurt Klementieff, as the actress revealed to Entertainment Weekly.

While Cruise’s kick would have been painful at best, and nowhere near as dangerous as the stunts Cruise performs multiple times in the new film, he probably didn’t want to risk harming Pom Klementieff in any way. That’s honourable, but of course, as the film’s producer, it’s also important to Cruise that nobody gets hurt on the set.

“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning – Part 1” has been in German cinemas since July 12, 2023, the sequel to the two-parter is expected on June 27, 2024.
