A 76-year-old woman died in a fire in a single-family home in Diepolz (Mistelbach district) on Friday. Possible causes of the fire were carelessness with an open flame or an electrical defect, said police spokeswoman Manuela Weinkirn. The main areas affected by the fire, in which a cat also died, were the living and dining areas of the property. The emergency services were alerted around 10 a.m. Several volunteer fire brigades were involved in the extinguishing work. Specialists from the State and Federal Criminal Police Office carried out an investigation into the cause in the afternoon hours.
