PARIS (Reuters) – The candidate of the Popular Union in the French presidential election, Jean-Luc Mlenchon, proposed on Monday to freeze the prices of energy and certain basic necessities to preserve the purchasing power of the French .
During the program “Face la guerre” on TF1, the deputy La France insoumise proposed to freeze the price of products in terms of food, hygiene, school supplies “and obviously gasoline”.
“In the longer term, we must put an end to the current modes of energy supply, fossil fuels, gas, oil, everything, we must do something else,” he added. “Where is the difficulty? We have to make the decision.”
Jean-Luc Mlenchon is one of the candidates likely to make it to the second round alongside outgoing President Emmanuel Macron, who is widely favored in opinion polls as the first round of voting approaches on 10 April.
