Mobilized for the start of a fire, firefighters make an abject discovery in a freezer

New twist in the case of the 31-year-old young man who committed the unthinkable on New Year’s Eve.

The facts took place on the night of December 31, 2019 on the 1er January 2020, in the small town of Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat, in Haute-Vienne. As reported by our colleagues from the Journal du Centre, Ludovic Martin, a young man aged 31 at the material time, was charged with the murder of his grandmother and placed in police custody after having confessed to the crime himself. The story is as sad as it is sordid, since Ludovic Martin had originally gone to his grandmother’s to recharge his batteries and rest. According to his friends, the young man had been the victim, on December 30, 2019, of a paranoia crisis and had therefore decided, on the advice of his relatives, to go to his grandmother Liliane Martin, aged 80, in order to find some members of his family there.

Once there, Ludovic did not manage to calm down, on the contrary. The Journal du Center reports that he was very agitated and was sure he was being stalked after having “provoked the anger of American stars on a social network”. Driven by fear, the young man went to buy a knife, gardening gloves and bleach. He will use it to kill his grandmother’s dog on New Year’s Eve because voices order him to do so. And the next morning, it’s his grandmother that he will end up kill before dismembering it and putting it in the freezer. Ludovic Martin then set fire to the house in order to get rid of the evidence, thus attracting the firefighters who discovered the corpse in the freezer of the house.

The culprit was declared irresponsible for his actions

As he himself told the investigators, Ludovic was also in the grip of a cannibal impulse which pushed him to remove the heart from her grandmother’s body to cook it. On November 17, 2022, he was criminally declared irresponsible for his actions according to the conclusions of two psychiatric expert reports. The experts in charge of the file had indeed explained that Ludovic Martin presented a “state of acute decompensation of his schizophrenic disorder“. The decision prevents the holding of any trial and, following the latter, the culprit was hospitalized in a specialized establishment. He recently applied for a power of cassation against the decision which declares him not criminally responsible.
