The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the American auto safety agency, has highlighted several technical problems with the Model 3 and Model S. Tesla has therefore launched a recall of more than 475,000 vehicles.

It is a reminder of scale for a brand like Tesla: 475,000 vehicles are recalled. To give an order of comparison, Tesla produced 509,737 electric cars in 2020.
Model 3 and Model S are affected
As much to tell you directly, if you bought a Model 3 in 2021, your vehicle is not affected by this recall. The recall only concerns, for the moment, the American market and more precisely the Tesla Model 3 sold between 2017 and 2020, as well as the Model S sold between 2017 and 2020.
Even though the recall is only for the US market, it will certainly be extended to other countries. We have contacted Tesla France, but we do not have an answer for you yet.
For the Model 3, NHTSA says the problem is with a rear-view camera wiring harness, which can be damaged by opening and closing the trunk, which can block the rear-view camera from working.
On the Model S, these are issues with the hood latch which can cause the “frunk” (the hood at the front to be opened manually) to open while the vehicle is in motion and without warning. , which blocks the visibility of the driver, thus increasing the risk of an accident.
Note that this is the second NHTSA action this month, they have also asked Tesla to block access to games when the vehicle is in motion. Tesla rolled out an update fairly quickly.
