The developers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have made the decision to rework the EMP (IEM) for the new installment. Inspired by an Internet meme, the new DDoS device is likely to annoy players in Multiplayer more than ever.
EMPs are electromagnetic pulses that have been available in several Call of Duty titles in the past. These systems make it possible to disable enemy electronics for a certain period of time. This can give his team a momentary advantage which makes the feature quite popular within the community.
On Modern Warfare 2, the developers chose to change things up by taking inspiration from internet memes at the expense of EMPs.

The good news for those who love the IEM system is that the feature is going to get some pretty nifty upgrades in Infinity Ward’s next game.
During an early access event, Charlie Intel – a Dexerto linked website – saw gameplay footage and was able to get to grips with the new MW2.
Multiplayer Design Directors Joe Cecot and Geoff Smith have detailed an overhaul of popular gear. He was renamed in MW2 as: DDoS.
It’s true that not everyone can get the benchmark at first glance, but those who spend countless hours scrolling through certain social networks or Twitch, will understand what the developers have done here.
A DDoS is a form of cyberattack commonly referred to as a denial of service attack. DDoS essentially renders the target unable to use a computer service. For example, a DDoS attack on a Twitch streamer could mean that their stream temporarily stops or their service is down indefinitely.
Despite its serious nature, many gamers sometimes enjoy these cyberattacks, the scale of which is not often taken seriously by the community.
How DDoS Works in Modern Warfare 2

In Modern Warfare 2, DDoS will block nearby equipment or objects. The game’s HUD will tell you if there are any vehicles and gear you can hit nearby.
Interestingly, when hit by a DDoS attack, the driver of the various vehicles will see their car, boat, or helicopter freeze. From there, they will have the option of, for example, taking that car back to a service station for repair, or starting the engine if it’s still running after the DDoS attack is over. If so, the driver will receive an alert to restart the engine.
The developers revealed that the name change was a direct result of internet memes, which is an interesting anecdote for fans to keep.
In action, it now looks like the newly renamed DDoS EMP will be both dangerous and annoying to your opponents.
