The Godzilla and King Kong Monsterverse is expanding with the series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.” Now there is a first trailer for the Apple TV+ series with Kurt Russell.
- Big monsters belong on the big screen? That was once!
- Godzilla and King Kong will return to cinemas in 2024, but before that the giant lizard will be up to mischief on Apple TV+.
- With “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” the Monsterverse from Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures is growing, and now there is a first trailer.
Do you remember the post-credits scene of “Kong: Skull Island”? In it, the characters played by Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson heard about the Monarch organization for the first time. A larger film universe was already hinted at in 2017, because Monarch was not only interested in King Kong, but also in other monsters.
The Monsterverse was born and “Godzilla,” “Godzilla II: King of the Monsters” and “Godzilla vs. Kong” followed. “Godzilla vs. Kong” in particular was so successful during the corona pandemic that a sequel was a given – and not just in the cinema!
Golden times for monster fans
In April 2024, the titan dream team Godzilla and King Kong will attack other Kaijū again in “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”. But on November 17, 2023, the Monsterverse will be expanded to include the first live-action series.
“Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” on Apple TV+ of course also has a lot of monster action to offer, but with several episodes the series also has more space to give the franchise more depth. You can see the first trailer for the series here:
With Kurt Russell (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”) and his son Wyatt (“The Falcon and The Winter Soldier”), the series also has two prominent names on board apart from Godzilla. Both Russells will portray the same character in different decades.
It is not yet clear whether “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” is intended to last several seasons or only serves as an introduction to “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”. Either way, Kaijū fans have been waiting for an elaborate series production of this kind for ages, so Apple TV+ is guaranteed to have numerous new subscribers.
