Monday trial in Lower Austria – man stuffed his baby handkerchief into his mouth – dead

A Lower Austrian will be tried next Monday in St. Pölten because he is said to have put a crumpled paper handkerchief in his baby’s mouth. According to the court, the foreign body got into the throat and closed the airways. Only half an hour later could the handkerchief be removed by the emergency doctor with a pair of pliers. The baby, a few weeks old, died. The man is accused of fatal bodily harm.

According to the court, the incident is said to have occurred five years ago in the St. Pölten-Land district. The man, born in 1986, has to answer to a jury’s senate. The defendant is the father, said the spokeswoman for the regional court on request.

Baby died in May 2016
According to media reports, the man is said to have stuffed a tissue into the mouth of the crying baby. The baby is said to have passed out, after months of treatment in the hospital, the baby died in May 2016, reported ORF Lower Austria.

Life companion only filed a complaint this year
It was only this January that the man’s partner reported to the police because he was said to have threatened her with killing. In the interrogation she is said to have also accused him of killing the child. According to the “Kurier”, the Lower Austrian is said to have claimed in the first questioning by the police that the child should have put the scarf in his mouth himself.
