Bloodthirsty revenge in the animal world? Residents of Lavool village, India, told how two monkeys killed hundreds of puppies before they were captured. They believe the animals were acting after one of their babies was killed by dogs.
The two “murderers” claimed at least 250 victims, reports the British newspaper The Guardian. They particularly targeted puppies that roamed the village and surrounding areas, kidnapping them and then taking them up a tree or a house, before throwing them to the ground.
The attacks began after a baby monkey was killed by dogs, residents of this area of Maharashtra state said. They also indicated that the two monkeys could also operate in another way. Rather than dropping their victim to the ground, they sometimes simply left them to starve to death, trapped in a high place from which it was impossible to descend.
If we are to believe the testimonies collected by our colleagues, this bloodthirsty vendetta had the effect of making all the puppies in the village disappear.
For the local forestry office, this theory of revenge between monkeys and dogs remains a hypothesis, however, difficult to prove. Indeed, his agents were contacted because the two primates then began to attack the children of the village, fortunately without causing a victim. The animals were therefore captured, then released in a forest far from the site of their misdeeds.
The story was particularly followed in the country, so much so that the terms “gang war between dogs and monkeys” were among the most searched on the Internet.
