The end has come for Moon Knight, which ends with a sixth episode rich in twists and turns for Marc/Steven. What to understand from this finale and the post-credits scene? Warning, spoilers.

After six episodes, the Moon Knight series is coming to an end. And the final chapter, rich in twists, marks the ultimate battle between Marc/Steven (Oscar Isaac) and Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke). While Steven sacrificed himself for Marc in the afterlife, Marc couldn’t bring himself to leave his alter ego in the desert. He returns to him and his action convinced Osiris to bring them back to life.
Marc and Steven, determined to put an end to Khonshu, make a deal with him, which has meanwhile been freed by Layla (May Calamawy). Marc and Steven agree to defeat Harrow and the deity Ammit if Khonshu (F. Murray Abraham) then frees them. For her part, Layla accepts to be the temporary avatar of Taouret or Taweret (Antonia Salib), the Egyptian goddess protector of childbirth and symbol of fertility, and transforms into a superheroine.
Layla then joins Marc and Steven in defeating Harrow and Khonshu defeats Ammit. Thanks to the powers of the Gods, Marc/Steven and Layla cast a spell to lock Ammit in Harrow’s body. Khonshu asks Marc/Steven to kill Harrow but Marc/Steven does not want to be under Khonshu’s control again. The latter then releases Marc/Steven from his powers and control.
But Marc and Steven find themselves once again in the psychiatric hospital to their great astonishment. In full possession of their faculties and better aware of their mental state, Marc and Steven refuse to be locked into this reality and reclaim their lives. Marc / Steven then wake up in their bed as at the beginning of the Marvel series, the circle is then complete and we think Marc / Steven finally free from the Egyptian deities. But a few clues in the final episode and its post-credits scene prove us otherwise.

The third confirmed identity
Several clues already suggested it, especially in episodes 1, 3 and 4, and the post-credits scene confirms it: Marc/Steven does have a third identity, resulting from his dissociative identity disorder. This much more violent identity intervened several times to save Marc/Steven, leaving some bloody traces behind him.
And it was indeed the person locked in the third sarcophagus in the psychiatric hospital in episode 4. This other identity intervenes again in episode 6 to help Marc/Steven in their final battle, leaving Marc and Steven lost after a blackout.
In the post-credits scene of the end of Moon Knight, we find Arthur Harrow in the psychiatric hospital. He is taken away by an unknown figure who forces him into a limo to find Khonshu. Arthur does not understand what is happening but Khonshu explains that he was not going to leave Marc/Steven alone, who according to him are not even aware of the content of their mental illness.

Indeed, Khonshu works with the third identity: Jake Lockley. In the comics, this identity of Moon Knight is a taxi driver who hangs out in the slums of New York in order to gather information on the underworld of crime. In the Marvel Studios series, Steven is rather kind, intelligent and self-effacing while Marc is more feisty, fearless and assertive. Jake therefore turns out to be an even darker and more violent part of the hero.
And it’s Jake who will take down Arthur Harrow to fulfill Khonshu’s will. This therefore means that Marc / Steven / Jake have not finished with the Egyptian divinity and that they are still in possession of the powers of Moon Knight. It remains to be seen how the hero will subsequently integrate into the MCU and whether he will intervene with his multiple identities in new adventures in the Marvel universe.
