more beautiful, more powerful, more daring, but also more expensive

Nothing has just announced the Phone (2), its brand new smartphone. Backed by its experience with the Phone (1), the British brand wants to build on what works and offer a more upscale product that doesn’t forget to be original. It is the design and the user experience that are once again put forward, and not the technical characteristics.

It was highly anticipated, here it is finally official! Nothing has just unveiled the Nothing Phone (2), his second smartphone. If it follows in the footsteps of the Phone (1) released last year, it is targeting a more upscale market by significantly increasing its price.

The heart of Phone (2), it’s obviously his design. The London brand takes up the very particular visual of the first model with its transparent shell, while improving the formula. The elements inside the smartphone have been reworked, led by LEDs. The whole gives a result very close to what we have known, but more neat. The terminal is available in both white and grey.

The Nothing Phone (2) is all about its design

The heart of the design, the Glyph system is making a comeback. While the Phone (1) consisted of 5 LEDs on the back, the Phone (2) offers 11 LEDs. If they are still customizable, the manufacturer has pushed the concept to its maximum with the possibility of composing its own ringtones and notifications. More so, some LEDs are now useful in apps, like Uber. For example, a lit LED gradually empties the closer your driver or delivery person is to your position. It can also be used as a stopwatch or volume indicator. In short, the whole system, already effective on (1), has been improved. A great idea on paper.

Emphasis was also placed on the overlay of Android 13: Nothing OS 2. Unlike the first version, it was developed entirely in-house. As a result, Nothing has allowed itself all the eccentricities to offer something truly original. The idea is to completely change the way to use Android, focusing the design around huge Widgets and folders of fun applications to take in hand. We have already been able to handle it and it is a real success.

Now let’s talk about technical characteristics, an aspect that is little highlighted by Nothing. The Phone (2) features a flat 6.7-inch LTPO OLED screen with symmetrical borders. Inside, we find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, the ideal compromise between performance and price, according to the manufacturer’s own admission. Regarding the camera, we always two 50-megapixel sensors, but this time, Nothing has chosen a wide angle IMX890 and an ultra wide angle Samsung JN1. On paper, the photo part seems to be its weak point, we will see all this during the test.
