Convinced by Apple’s Vision Pro, but the glasses are too heavy and too expensive for you? The Spacetop laptop could be a more interesting alternative.

AR glasses like Apple’s Vision Pro enable a completely new form of media consumption or work. Apple’s Vision Pro computer glasses, for example, offer the possibility of creating a huge virtual workspace in front of your eyes.
But as futuristic as Apple’s mixed reality glasses may be, they still have some real shortcomings in everyday life. Critics complain about the short running time of the battery pack, which is connected via cable. The glasses are also very heavy, weighing up to 650 grams.
As an alternative, there are other, lighter concepts such as the OLED glasses Legion Glasses that we tried out, which pass through signals from a laptop or games console. The Spacetop G1 is now another solution that combines many of the features of the glasses mentioned above.
The system consists of a portable keyboard with USB-C outputs, which does not have a display in its lid, but rather a recess for AR glasses. The keyboard has a Qualcomm Snapdragon QCS8550 chip installed, as well as 128 gigabytes of storage and 16 gigabytes of RAM.
The operating system used is the company’s own development called SpaceOS. The OS is optimized for working in the browser, similar to ChromeOS. According to the manufacturer, the system’s battery life is eight hours.
The glasses themselves weigh just 85 grams and feature two mini OLED displays with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and a refresh rate of 90 Hertz. People who wear glasses can have the optics adjusted to their prescription.
Price and availability
The Spacetop G1 can be pre-ordered here for the current price of $1,700. Delivery is scheduled for October 2024. The price will then rise by $200 to $1,900.
