With drones and artillery, Russia is attacking more cities and villages in Ukraine at night than it has so far all year. Several people died in the shelling, and an oil refinery also went up in flames and had to be extinguished for hours.
According to Ukrainian sources, Russia shelled more than 100 locations in Ukraine within 24 hours. Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said in online media that 118 places in ten regions were attacked. “This is the largest number of towns and villages attacked since the beginning of the year.”
Local officials said one person was killed in the overnight shelling in the northeastern Kharkiv region. Another person died in the southern Kherson region. A woman was also killed and four people were injured in the southern city of Nikopol, the local governor said.
The government in Kiev also reported a Russian attack on an oil refinery in the central industrial city of Kremenchuk. There were no casualties, but around 100 firefighters fought the fire for several hours.
The Ukrainian Air Force said on Wednesday that it had shot down 18 of 20 Russian drones that were launched during the night. The Russian Defense Ministry said it shot down two Ukrainian drones over the Bryansk and Kursk regions. Both regions border Ukraine.
