At the worldwide box office, no film is more successful than "Avatar". James Cameron's sci-fi spectacle has replaced "Avengers: Endgame".

For around ten years, James Cameron's (66) blockbuster "Avatar – Aufbruch nach Pandora", which first appeared in 2009, was the most successful film ever at the box office – until "Avengers: Endgame" took the crown in 2019. Now "Avatar" has regained the top ranking, as the industry magazine "Deadline" reports.

How come?

A re-release of the sci-fi spectacle in China recently brought in the equivalent of 8.9 million US dollars and thus closed a gap of around 7.82 million dollars to "Avengers: Endgame". At present, the worldwide revenues of "Avatar" would be estimated at $ 2,798,579,794 billion, while "Endgame" would be at $ 2,797,501,328 billion. The science fiction blockbuster was only re-released in China on Friday. When it was first released in 2010, Cameron's film grossed $ 203 million in China.

Meanwhile, the director continues to work on the sequels of "Avatar". As things stand at present, the second part is expected for the end of 2022. Part three should appear in December 2024 and films four and five then in 2026 and 2028.
