Moto World Championship in Indonesia – Martin crashes, Bagnaia wins – Dettwiler pays the lesson – Sport

  • Francesco Bagnaia wins the MotoGP race in Indonesia. His toughest opponent, Jorge Martin, falls.
  • In the Moto3 race, Noah Dettwiler has to make do with last place.

Things looked very good for Jorge Martin at the Indonesian Grand Prix. The Spanish MotoGP rider, who took the lead in the World Championship standings for the first time in his career thanks to his victory in Saturday’s sprint race, confidently led the race. But shortly before the halfway point of the race, the Ducati rider landed in the gravel trap. The Spaniard crashed in turn 11 because he lost the front wheel.

Francesco Bagnaia was a big beneficiary of Martin’s mishap. The Italian, who started from 13th place, took the lead in the race and crossed the finish line with a narrow lead. Thanks to this victory, the defending champion snatched back the World Cup lead; Bagnaia is now back at the top of the “premier class” with an 18-point lead. Behind Bagnaia, Maverick Viñales (ESP) and Fabio Quartararo (FRA) finished on the podium.

“Lonely Race” by Dettwiler

After finishing 20th on his debut in Spielberg, things didn’t go as planned for Swiss motorcycle racer Noah Dettwiler at the Indonesian Grand Prix. In the Moto3 race, the 18-year-old from Solothurn ended up in 26th and last place. He lost almost 40 seconds to winner Diogo Moreira.

One reason for the big backlog were two time-consuming mistakes, as he analyzed in an interview with SRF. “I actually had a good start,” said Dettwiler. When he started fighting he slowed down. “Two laps later, when I tried to get back into the group, I made the same mistake again,” said the young Swiss. After that he had a “pretty lonely race”. Nevertheless, it was a very educational weekend for him – also because he was able to get to know how to work with the team.

Dettwiler stepped in for the injured Spaniard David Salvador at the Equipe CIP Green Power GP. The Solothurn native already has a contract as a regular driver with the same team for the next two years.
