Motorola has finally officially presented the Motorola Razr 40 series and revealed the specifications of the two models. Both are top smartphones, although the Razr 40 Ultra still has a few advantages to offer.

outdoor display
With the Razr 40 Ultra, the large external display is immediately noticeable, which at 3.6 inches is the largest for a clamshell phone to date. The two external cameras and the flash are embedded in the display, which is also a rather unusual design. The outer display of the Razr 40 is a lot smaller at 1.5 inches and only suffices for basic information such as the time.

On the inside, the size of the two displays is identical at 6.9 inches and the quality of the foldable screens differs only slightly. Both devices have a resolution of 2,640 x 1,080 pixels (FHD+), with the Ultra having a higher refresh rate of 165 Hertz. The Razr 40 can only offer 144 Hertz here.
Performance
The Ultra version also performs better in terms of performance. It is equipped with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is Qualcomm’s flagship processor from last year. The cheaper variant has to be satisfied with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, which is already a bit older. The processors are each supported by 8 gigabytes of RAM, which is now standard. However, the 40 Ultra has LPDDR5 RAM, whereas the Razr 40’s LPDDR 4X standard is slightly slower.

Surprisingly, the point for the battery goes to the normal Motorola Razr 40. This is equipped with a capacity of 4,200 milliampere hours (mAh), whereas the ultra version only has 3,800 mAh. Due to the lower power consumption of the weaker processor, you have a few hours more runtime with the standard model.
camera
On paper, the Razr 40 is better equipped here too. While both models have 13-megapixel macro and ultra-wide-angle cameras, the Razr 40’s main sensor is 64-megapixel, compared to 12-megapixel on the ultra. However, this does not necessarily mean anything, since the number of megapixels is not always decisive due to pixel binning. According to the manufacturer, the sensor of the 40 Ultra should be significantly better. Only an extensive test will show how exactly the photos differ from each other.
price and availability
The Razr 40 Ultra is already available in Europe and the Razr 40 is also scheduled to follow later this month. The Ultra model is priced at a whopping 1,199 euros, which makes the smartphone one of the most expensive on the market. The basic model, on the other hand, is one of the cheapest foldables on the market at a price of 899 euros.
The Motorola Razr 40 is available in Sage Green, Vanilla Cream, and Summer Lilac, while the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra can be purchased in Infinite Black, Glacier Blue, and Viva Magenta.
Conclusion
The Motorola Razr 40 is perfectly adequate for those who do not use demanding games or other programs on their cell phone. The only functional disadvantage compared to the 40 Ultra is the smaller external display. If you want to treat yourself to something and value a lot of performance, then you are also well served with the Ultra.
