Mourning for young musicians: Russia fires on residential areas in Zaporizhia

Mourning for young musicians
Russia shells residential areas in Zaporizhia

For the second day in a row, Russian troops shelled residential buildings in the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia. Four civilians are killed in the attacks, including two young street musicians. A video is doing the rounds online showing the two at their last appearance.

According to the authorities, one person was killed and eleven others injured in another Russian attack on the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia. A fire broke out in a civilian building after “the occupiers fired at it with a rocket,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote in his Telegram channel. The day before, Russian missiles had killed at least three people in the city.

According to the head of the city’s military administration, Anatoly Kurtev, one person is in serious condition after today’s attack. A three-year-old child was also among the injured. According to Kurtew, two high-rise buildings and “medical and educational facilities” were damaged.

Two young musicians among the dead

Three people were killed and seven others injured in Russian attacks on a residential area in Zaporizhia on Wednesday. According to Ukrainian reports, two of the dead were young street musicians who had just been making music. Numerous users shared videos of their last appearance on social media.

Selenskyj expressed his condolences to the relatives. Russia will be sentenced for such crimes, the head of state wrote on Telegram. A church and several small shops were damaged. The Ukrainian side did not provide any information about the type of weapon used to shell the city.

Zaporizhia is an extremely important city on the Dnipro River. It is a good 40 kilometers from the current front line and is the capital of the oblast of the same name, which is partly occupied by the Russian armed forces. After sham referendums last fall, the Kremlin declared the region part of Russia, along with the Cherson, Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts in southern and eastern Ukraine. In its war of aggression in Ukraine, Russia repeatedly attacks towns and villages beyond the front line, including the capital Kiev.
