Mouse cursor: Microsoft refines its tool to spot it as dry

With version 0.55 of its PowerToys, Microsoft is further perfecting its functionality allowing you to find, in the blink of an eye, the eternally lost cursor of the mouse.

Not necessarily widely known to the general public, PowerToys tools allow Microsoft to complete the Windows experience by adding advanced features. Grouped together in a single application, available in open source, some of these functions are really practical. Among them hides in particular a tool allowing to easily find the mouse cursor. A very useful tool, especially when you have a large display surface or several screens.

We learn this week that through PowerToys 0.55, Microsoft has completed this feature to make it even more efficient. And to do this, the firm changes its approach: instead of the color halo centered on the lost cursor, the tool now allows you to display a crosshair.

A sight aimed directly at the lost cursor

This reticle looks like a large viewfinder aimed directly at the cursor. As specified by XDA Developers, this function is activated and deactivated with the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+P (shortcut that can be personalized). It is also possible to customize the crosshairs (colors, thickness, opacity, etc.) using the appearance parameters of the new “Mouse cursor crosshairs” menu in PowerToys. Note that this reticle is however persistent: it will not disappear without your intervention.

PowerToys 0.55 doesn’t just bring this new cursor tracking tool, however. Along with bug fixes, it also comes with support for over 150 developer files for the preview pane, and two new file explorer add-ons. A function to generate thumbnails in STL format is also relevant.

As a reminder, PowerToys is accessible both on the Microsoft Store and on GitHub, at this address.
