Mozambique: 12 years in prison for two ex-intelligence chiefs and the son of an ex-president


Two former intelligence chiefs and the son of an ex-president in Mozambique were sentenced on Wednesday December 7 to twelve years in prison in the gigantic corruption scandal known as the “hidden debt” .

The former head of intelligence services and state security, Gregorio Leao, the ex-boss of economic intelligence, Antonio do Rosario, have been sentenced by a special court in the capital Maputo. Ndambi Guebuza, the eldest son of former President Armando Guebuza was also sentenced to twelve years in prison by a special court.

These convictions come within the framework of the gigantic corruption scandal known as the “hidden debt“. The convicts carried out secret loans of two billion dollars granted by foreign banks to Mozambican public companies, which had plunged the country into a serious financial crisis.
