Initially reluctant, MrBeast finally tested the native publication of his videos on X.com.
At the very end of 2023, MrBeast had ruled out the idea of publishing his videos directly on X.com, as Elon Musk encouraged him to do. The number 1 YouTuber in the world will quickly have changed his mind: he has just uploaded a video for the first time on the social network.
Too little revenue on X.com?
“I’m curious how much ad revenue a video on X.com would generate, so I’m reposting this one to test”, informed MrBeast, James Stephen Donaldson of his real name. For this trial run, he uploaded his video to X.com $1 car vs $100 million car dating from four months ago, which has more than 200 million views on YouTube.
The creator with 231 million YouTube subscribers was pessimistic about the benefit of publishing his videos directly on X.com. “My videos cost millions to make and even if they got a billion views on X.com, that wouldn’t fund a fraction of them”he said recently, responding to a message from Elon Musk.
He added that he was, however, ready to “test things once monetization really starts”and it won’t take long for him to do so.
Elon Musk wants everything to happen on X.com
Elon Musk’s strategy to develop X.com is to retain users, who he wants to stay on his platform for all their activities. To do this, it began to penalize messages containing external links, whether to articles or videos hosted on other services, in order to favor content on X.com.
To encourage creators to produce for X.com, the social network has improved its video player. It also aims to become a major player in live video streaming in the future. Since July 2023, X.com has launched a program to remunerate content creators, the highlight of the new policy put in place.
