Ed Sheeran and the South Korean K-pop band BTS became the winners of the MTV Europe Music Awards on Sunday night.

On the evening of November 14th, the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) were presented in Budapest. The British singer Ed Sheeran (30) was able to look forward to two prizes, the K-pop sensation BTS even won four prizes. Sheeran, who performed “Overpass Graffiti” on the stage of the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna, among other things in the categories Best artist and best song honored for “Bad Habits”. BTS took home the awards for Best Pop, Best K-Pop, Best Band and Biggest Fans. The rapper Badmómzjay (19) was named Best German Act honored.

The following winners were celebrated in the other categories: Lil Nas X (22) with “Montero (Call Me. By Your Name)” for Best Video, Doja Cat ft. SZA – “Kiss Me More” for Best Collaboration, Saweetie (28) , Presenter of the evening, as best newcomer, David Guetta (54) for best electro, Yungblud (24) as best alternative artist, Maluma (27) as best Latin act, Nicki Minaj (38) as best hip-hop artist , Taylor Swift (31) for Best US Act, Olivia Rodrigo (18) for Best Push and Billie Eilish (19) for “Your Power” in the Video for Good category.

ESC winner honored

The Italian ESC winner Maneskin could look forward to their first EMA and the award in the Best Rock category. “People have always told us that we won’t make it with our music – I think they were wrong,” said front man Damiano David (22) in his acceptance speech. Viktoria Radvanyi, an LGBTQ activist, was also honored. With the “Generation Change” award, the organizer showed its solidarity with the LGBTQ movement in Hungary.

In the run-up to the nomination list, Justin Bieber (27), who was awarded no prize, headed the list with eight nominations. Doja Cat (26) and Lil Nas X followed, each with six nominations. Sheeran and The Kid Laroi (18) were nominated five times each.
