A legend of music television will soon conquer German radio: “MTV’s Most Wanted” star Ray Cokes is joining Radio Eins.

To describe British radio and television presenter Ray Cokes (66) as a jack-of-all-trades would be an understatement. In the course of his career, which has now spanned over four decades, he has given viewers and listeners from Germany, Belgium, France, Denmark and of course England a set of hot ears. He will soon be doing this in a new program on the evening program of Radio Eins from Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb), as announced in a press release.

Accordingly, the MTV Europe legend will be behind the microphone in the “RayDio Cokes Show” every Saturday evening between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. starting March 23rd. During the two hours, Cokes will welcome musical guests, talk to his listeners and present a wide range of songs – from well-known classics to new (secret) tips.

Despite his 66 years, Cokes is also extremely willing to learn. “RayDio Cokes Show” is an English-language program. However, he has decided to take German lessons in the coming months, according to the statement.

Impressive life path

Cokes earned his first spurs as a radio presenter not in his native Britain, but in Belgium. When MTV Europe was finally founded in 1987 as a counterpart to the US original, Cokes joined as a regular video jockey. In this country too, he finally became a star thanks to his charmingly anarchic show “MTV’s Most Wanted”.

Launched in 1992, the show quickly became a crowd puller, attracting an audience of millions from dozens of countries in front of the screens. In 1995 they decided to end the show. In the period that followed, he moderated various programs and live shows, but he was no longer able to build on his successes in the mid-90s.

To this end, he tried his hand successfully as a book author: his autobiography “My Most Wanted Life” was published in 2014. The 66-year-old has also been living in his adopted home of Berlin since 2020 – so he may have already picked up a little German for the start of the show.
