Mudslides – Strong storm raged in the Lungau

The volunteer fire brigades in Lungau and Pongau were challenged on Thursday evening: mudslides and blockages made their operations more difficult.

After the heat wave of the past few days, a storm hit Lungau and Pongau late Thursday afternoon. Due to the heavy rain and hail, individual streams burst their banks in Zederhaus in the early evening due to blockages. In addition, there were mudslides in the Thomatal. Individual streets were buried. However, according to the state fire brigade association, these could be freed in the course of the evening. As a result, there were no longer roadblocks. The Floriani also had to move out in Pongau due to the storm. In Grossarl and Pfarrwerfen the basements were flooded as a result of the rain. “The water came down the mountain and penetrated individual cellars,” says the fire department.
