A 50-year-old man, already convicted of rape, is suspected of having raped and killed the young woman in Morbihan.

UA 50-year-old man, already convicted of rape, was indicted and remanded in custody for the murder of Iris C., whose naked body was discovered at the end of May in Lanester (Morbihan), announced Friday evening the Lorient public prosecutor’s office.
The suspect, identified in particular thanks to video surveillance, is indicted on the counts of kidnapping, forcible confinement and murder preceded or accompanied by rape, said in a press release the public prosecutor of Lorient, Stéphane Kellenberger, confirming information from the daily. The body of Iris C., aged 23, was found by walkers in the waters of the Blavet in Lanester, with traces of blows and strangulation. Witnesses reported seeing the young woman leaving a bar in Lorient late the night before her discovery.
Already sentenced in 2015
The suspect, who is not a relative of the victim, was taken into custody Thursday morning after being identified through CCTV footage. According to Ouest-France and Le Télégramme, this man is from the Lorient region and was already sentenced in 2015 to nine years in prison by the Morbihan Assize Court for a rape committed in 2001.

Investigators from the Rennes judicial police have identified the suspect by crossing the list of sex offenders with that of the owners of a white utility vehicle that appeared on the CCTV images, where we see the victim lying on the public highway. A judicial investigation against X for kidnapping, voluntary homicide and rape had been opened on June 2.
A man in his thirties, described as being “close to the family circle” by the prosecution, was also placed in police custody shortly after the events, but he was released without prosecution.
