The violence of the crime has shaken France. Friday November 18, a few hours after the report of her disappearance, the young Vanesa, 14, was found dead in an abandoned house near Tonneins, in Lot-et-Garonne. The Agen police quickly identified a suspect: Romain C., a 31-year-old temporary worker living in Marmande with his partner, was seen on the CCTV images of Tonneins as he arrested Vanesa on leaving her college. Arrested at his home, he was quick to recognize the facts.

Immediately after his confession, Romain C. was indicted for kidnapping, forcible confinement, rape and murder of a minor. His defense was entrusted to Maître Alexandre Martin, a magistrate well known to the general public. For more than a year, the latter has indeed represented Cédric Jubillar, suspected of having played a role in the disappearance of his wife, Delphine, which occurred on the night of December 15 to 16, 2020 in Cagnac-les-Mines (Tarn). He defends the 30-year-old in collaboration with two other lawyers: Me Jean-Baptiste Alary and Me Emmanuelle Franck.

For the moment, he will go to his cell and meet with experts who are best able to understand what appears to be totally inexplicable, said the magistrate on BFMTV. It is urgent to keep a certain dignity and to leave room for the pain of this family.“Sunday, November 20, the alleged murderer was transferred to the Agen courthouse to be presented to an examining magistrate.
