Moment of shock for a 26-year-old combine harvester driver in Pöls: On Wednesday afternoon, when the man was harvesting in a field, he suddenly noticed clouds of smoke at the rear of the machine. He tried to put out the fire himself and was taken to the hospital with suspected smoke inhalation.

A 26-year-old from the Deutschlandsberg district was working with a combine harvester on a field in Pöls-Oberkurzheim (Murtal district) early on Wednesday afternoon when he suddenly noticed the smell of smoke in the driver’s cab. As he immediately noticed, smoke was rising from the rear of the combine harvester. The West Styrian informed the emergency services and meanwhile tried to extinguish the fire himself. The volunteer fire departments in Pöls and Fohnsdorf quickly got the fire under control. The 26-year-old driver was taken to the LKH Murtal with suspected smoke poisoning. According to the police, the cause of the fire has not yet been fully clarified. It is believed that the fire started due to the heat generated and the dust from the threshing. The amount of property damage has not yet been determined.
