There was a lot to discover at the MWC 2022 one day before the official start of the trade fair. As NextPits field reporter, I am live on site and will summarize the highlights of the zeroth day of the trade fair for you in the video recap. One day before the start of the trade fair, the tech industry in Barcelona is already in turmoil. In the blazing sunshine, a number of journalists, manufacturers, marketing professionals and I met at an event called Showstoppers and watched what Huawei presented in the live stream. Day 0 of the MWC 2022 was really exciting outside of the “Fira de Barcelona” exhibition center!
In the exhibition halls themselves, on the other hand, there was little going on. I already showed you that this afternoon in the form of a sneak preview of the construction work around the MWC. At this point I want to tell you again why Showstoppers is a must for every technology fan.
Meat thermometer, Astroslide and Fritz!Box
The Showstoppers event is basically a mini-fair for smaller companies that like it private or for whom a stand in the exhibition halls is too expensive. As technology journalists, we sometimes have the chance to see future big players in their infancy. For example, in 2018 I discussed European regulations for e-scooters with e-scooter rental company Lime – and almost a year later, scooters were everywhere!
This year, while Camila and I both agree that Showstoppers was relatively boring, there were still some exciting things. The guys from Meater have introduced their wireless meat thermometer again, which will tell you the temperature in the meat. In addition, the former Kickstarter project Astroslide was presented in the final version and AVM exhibited the Fritz!Box Fiber – a WLAN router that is equipped for the fiber optic age. Personally, I find it so exciting that I booked an interview for Wednesday.
So the MWC 2022 has officially started before it officially started! We’ll stay on the ball and tell you in the next few days what there is to see in Barcelona. See you tomorrow at the latest!
