MWC 2023 – The Apple iPhone is not the only one to inspire, Nothing too

The Barcelona bays of the Mobile World Congress are populated by stands of major manufacturers, but also hide those of more confidential manufacturers. Some most often offer smartphones that look like those of Apple, but this year, the Chinese firm Unihertz is inspired by another manufacturer with a limited catalog: Nothing.

Based in Shanghai, Unihertz usually offers mobiles inspired by BlackBerry fire or hardened terminals. In 2023, the brand is innovating with its Luna, whose transparent back reveals a system of LEDs accompanying notifications or music playback.

Eyeing the Glyph of the Nothing Phone (1), the terminal comes in white, pink, red, green or blue for color lovers. An aesthetic choice “inspired by the ancient oriental philosophy of the cosmos” (sic) and which did not fail to make Carl Pei, the CEO of Nothing, smile during his visit to Barcelona, very happy to gauge the notoriety acquired by his brand.

In terms of characteristics, the Luna is not likely to lead too tough competition with the Phone (1). Under its 6.81-inch screen, the device hides a Helio G99 chip (4G only when the Phone (1) is 5G compatible) flanked by 8 GB of RAM, a 5000 mAh battery, a photo unit with three modules (108 megapixels, 20 Mpx in monochrome and 2 Mpx with macro optics) and a mini-jack socket. The smartphone is announced under Android 12, with no promise of a later update, but with a refined interface, unlike that of Nothing.

The device should be marketed in March 2023 at around €300 on its site and on Amazon, specifies Unihertz.
