myCANAL is coming in 4K UHD, here’s how to enjoy it


Notice to owners of a box or a television operating under the Android TV system! Since the beginning of July 2023, it has been possible to enjoy content from the myCANAL application in 4K UHD. On the program: cinema, series, documentaries and many more.

More than three years after the arrival of Full HD on Android and Android TV, content in 4K UHD finally land on the myCANAL application via boxes and televisions running under the system Android-TV from Google. According to our observations, the deployment of this heading was carried out on version 5.21.0 of myCANAL. In another response, Channel support informs that “4K content was present before, but did not have a dedicated section on this medium”. However, access to 4K content is not currently available on a Chromecast. But there is no doubt that the functionality will arrive in a few days, during the summer period.

What are the myCANAL programs available in 4K UHD from Android TV?

Thus, customers with a Canal+ subscription will be able to see or rewatch current programs with a definition of 3840 x 2160 pixels, directly from the home page of the Canal+ group app.

By selecting “4K UHD” with the remote control, users will be able to choose from four sub-categories which are: All, Cinema, Series and Other.

In “Cinema”, fans of the 7th art will have the privilege of watching films like Avatar: The Way of the Water And Top Gun: Maverick. As a reminder, the Canal group is offering these feature films only 6 months after their theatrical release.

In “Series”, subscribers will discover original creations from Canal+, Showtime productions, but also exclusive content from Apple TV+ which recently joined the catalog of the famous encrypted channel. We will find in particular BIS, Gangs of London, Ted Lasso or even Silothe first episode of which was recently broadcast on Twitter.

Finally, the “Other” sub-category concerns various programs such as documentaries, one-man-shows, concerts and shows.
