Nacon RIG 600 Pro HX headset review: versatility at the right price

Nacon is launching a new gaming headset: the RIG 600 Pro HX, whose versatility commands respect. Especially under the €100 mark.

When you go to an aisle of audio accessories designed for gaming use, there is something to get lost. The brands offer numerous models, at prices ranging from a few dozen euros (for the most modest) to several hundred euros (for the most luxurious). The RIG 600 Pro HX designed by Nacon belongs to the first category: it is a wireless model which strives to include as many features as possible to guarantee good value for money.

Its main argument is undoubtedly its versatility: if the RIG 600 Pro HX is designed for the Xbox ecosystem, it is also fully compatible with PlayStation consoles, Nintendo Switch, PCs and mobile platforms. For €100, you are purchasing a product that can connect to everything you own or will own in the future. This already allows you to avoid multiple purchases.

A design worthy of the gaming market

Lightweight

The comfort of a helmet also depends on its weight. The RIG 600 Pro HX weighs only 240 grams.

The RIG 600 Pro HX does not seek to hide its affiliation with the gaming market. The result is an aggressive design based on a hoop pierced with multiple patterns. This aesthetic attribute, which we can deplore if we prefer sobriety, is attenuated by the black finish without embellishments. Thus, the accessory will not be adorned with multiple colored LEDs when switched on, as some competitors like to do. The RIG 600 Pro HX is equipped with a fixed microphone which retracts, a little with difficulty it must be admitted, into the left earpiece. You have to save money somewhere.

Nacon really thought of everything

The product inspires solidity, with very rigid plastic and foam parts which we do not fear for longer-term durability. Nacon goes so far as to certify the headband of “ almost indestructible “. On the other hand, and it is a choice that may seem surprising, the RIG 600 Pro HX only offers three settings for the headband: S, M or L. You just need to fix the two earpieces on the desired level, depending on your body shape, praying that the lack of flexibility is not detrimental to comfort. The earcups and the top of the headband are padded well enough to avoid this pitfall, but if you are between sizes, some discomfort may eventually arise. Other headsets offer adjustment with more amplitude.

Double connection for less than €100

The RIG 600 Pro HX comes with a USB-C dongle which provides a 2.4 GHz radio frequency connection. It has a switch which allows it to be compatible either with Xbox consoles (symbolized by a console-shaped logo) or with other devices (PS5, etc.). A USB-C to USB-A adapter is provided in the packaging if needed, proof that Nacon has really thought of everything.

The headset also has Bluetooth technology to be connected to your smartphone or tablet, like any wireless audio accessory. It is even capable of maintaining a dual connection. With a simple press of a button, you can switch from radio frequency (gaming) mode to Bluetooth mode, or keep both at the same time. What’s the point ? A legal example: accept a call on your smartphone during a game, without needing to remove the headset. A less legal example: playing the console while listening to an important meeting at work.

Another argument in favor of the RIG 600 Pro HX: there is a complete application on iOS and Android to personalize the experience. It is useful for making updates or accessing an equalizer with certain presets (improved bass, improved vocals, clarity, etc.). There is even an expert mode to manage the acoustic part even more precisely. For a product costing less than €100, this level of possibilities is really appreciable.

Correct sound, nothing more

The RIG 600 Pro HX is armed with two 40mm drivers promising “ incomparable audio quality “. Behind this pretty marketing speech, the reality is not so rosy. The product, tested on PS5 in our case, then with an iPhone for music, provides the essentials: a fairly neutral signature, not to say flat, but with enough detail to be satisfied the majority of the time. The default rendering still lacks a bit of bass and a little pass through the application will not be too much to adjust to suit your needs.

Good point regarding spatialization: on a title like Alan Wake 2, the 360-degree soundscape works quite well, with accentuated immersion as needed. We still feel the RIG 600 Pro HX a little reserved, but this timidity is rather beneficial: as it is not muscular enough to do more, it prefers not to fall into the trap of poorly controlled showoff. Once again, you have to remember the price: for less than €100, you have to know how to lower your requirements.

The verdict

Wireless, versatile, capable of maintaining a connection to two sources at the same time, light, well finished… The RIG 600 Pro HX from Nacon has no shortage of arguments. And we can hardly attack it on its price. For less than €100, it turns out to be very generous on the criteria that count.

However, you shouldn’t expect mountains and wonders either. On the audio side, there are better on the market. And its design articulated around a hoop offering three fixed sizes can be detrimental depending on its morphology. But we will not fundamentally make a bad choice by purchasing the RIG 600 Pro HX.
