Nancy Street rape: the suspect arrested had killed a grandmother with 82 stab wounds

A 37-year-old man was arrested by the Nancy police (Meurthe-et-Moselle), suspected of having raped a 22-year-old woman in the middle of the street, on the evening of April 27, report our colleagues from The Republican East.

The 22-year-old victim was walking home in Nancy after her day’s work when a man armed with a knife appeared to abuse her at gunpoint.

Significant police resources were then deployed to identify the perpetrator, with DNA samples taken from the victim and compared to the database of the National Automated DNA Fingerprint File (FNAEG).

Stabbed in her bed near Dunkirk

The genetic material taken from Nancy corresponded to that of a man sentenced in 2010 by the North Assize Court to 20 years’ imprisonment for having stabbed a 79-year-old grandmother 82 times, who was bedridden, while that he was robbing his home in Bourbourg, near Dunkirk.

A gardener in an integration company, the suspect was arrested on Monday by the Nancy police “near his home”, in Nancy. Placed in police custody, “he denies the facts of which he is accused”, notes his lawyer.

Presented Wednesday to the magistrates of the Nancy judicial court for the rape with which he is accused, the 30-year-old was indicted for “rape under the threat of a weapon and repeated death threats”. He was remanded in custody.
