Narcotics trial – Six Captagon suspects already free

“Krone” readers know: One of the largest drug criminal proceedings is currently being negotiated at the regional court – the case of the Captagon mafia. During a break in the process due to illness, the court released two other suspects from custody. This means that six of a total of 14 accused are at large.

At the beginning of the trial on December 14, 13 of the 14 accused entered the Salzburg jury in handcuffs. But now, after several days of negotiations, six suspects have already been released from custody. This week, two defendants were allowed to go free again, defender Jürgen Pföstl confirmed to the “Krone”. According to the indictment, both are helpers of the alleged main suspects, a Lebanese-Austrian family. This is said to have operated from a pizzeria in Bürmoos from international trade with 13.8 million Captagon tablets worth 40 million euros – the “Krone” reported. It is unclear whether negotiations can continue as planned from Tuesday: A judge in the jury panel is ill. Nevertheless, verdicts are not expected until spring, since a number of protocols have to be retranslated.
