At Lausanne, Lukas Frick is an indispensable top performer. He wants to be that again in the national team.

I also want to move forward in the national team

Lukas Frick secretly equalized a record last Saturday. Against Biel, the long-time favorite in defense played his 378th game in a row for Lausanne. He is now level with Michael Ngoy, who once played the same number of games for Freiburg.

It must be said that this is the record number of consecutive games for one and the same club. After moving to Ambri, Ngoy added 65 more games before a concussion stopped his run. Ivo Rüthemann holds the absolute record with 523 games from December 2nd, 1995 to October 8th, 2005 (for Davos and Bern).

New record holder on February 13th?

Frick has missed exactly one game since moving from Kloten to Lausanne in 2017. That was on the second matchday of the 2017/18 season.

For me it is a pleasure to wear the national jersey and compete with others at the highest level.

The St. Gallen defender has been on the ice in every LHC game since September 15, 2017. And if he doesn’t get injured on the Euro Hockey Tour this week, he will replace Ngoy as record holder in the game against Biel on February 13th.

Missed 2 World Championships recently

For Frick, the number isn’t a big deal. It’s a nice statistic, “but the most important thing is that I’m healthy. That’s why I don’t miss any games.” Of course there is also a bit of luck involved, after all he was never suspended or put in the stands by the trainers.

Frick would like to be an indispensable support in the national team again. In 2022 and 2023 he did not make it into Patrick Fischer’s World Cup squad – as one of the World Cup silver heroes in 2018 and an Olympic participant in 2022.

No superstitions

That should now change again. Frick wants to recommend himself for higher tasks on the Euro Hockey Tour in Sweden. «For me it is a pleasure to wear the national jersey and compete with others at the highest level. I want to leave a good impression on the staff,” said Frick.

Superstition shouldn’t get in the way just because the long-running record was discussed. “If I get an injury in the next game, then so be it,” says Frick. “I’m just happy that I can do what I love.”
