National coach irritates team
DFB women are no longer concerned with Voss-Tecklenburg

The situation surrounding national soccer coach Voss-Tecklenburg, who is taking a break, is more than complicated. The national players don’t want to be influenced by the noise. There is hardly any public empathy for the coach from the team.

The tone between the paused national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg and the German Football Association is becoming rougher. However, the national players do not want to let this influence them before the two important Nations League games on Friday against Wales (5.45 p.m./ARD) and on Tuesday in Iceland (8 p.m./ZDF). “We as a team have completely different things on our minds. This is the Olympics. We don’t have the right to interfere in many things,” said midfielder Linda Dallmann (29).

The 55-year-old Voss-Tecklenburg and the DFB are “currently speaking primarily” through lawyers. There is hardly any public empathy from the team. “There are important games coming up, so I think I can speak for the team and say that the topic doesn’t have much weight right now,” said central defender Sara Doorsoun (29) in a Sky interview published on Wednesday. “We won’t let anything that happens in the media unsettle us. We won’t lose our focus and that is on sports.”

Voss-Tecklenburg, who was taking a break after her illness, caused irritation among the players and the association because she gave public lectures during her vacation. It seems impossible that she will return to the sidelines. However, Voss-Tecklenburg still has a valid contract until the 2025 European Championship. The severance payment could be expensive for the cash-strapped DFB.

Interim coach Horst Hrubesch comes in handy as a beacon of hope for the team. “I think that the team was extremely relaxed. I already have a feeling of a new start, also personally. I’m glad that Horst and his coaching team are there for us in this situation,” said Bayern professional Dallmann. “We are very keen to implement Horst’s ideas.”
