Ukraine reports further successes of its long-awaited major offensive. After recapturing several settlements, Ukrainian marines are said to have taken the village of Storozheve in the south of the country.

According to their own statements, the Ukrainian armed forces took the village of Storozheve in the Donetsk region during their offensive. “The national flag is again flying over Storozheve and so will every town until we completely liberate the Ukrainian land,” Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar wrote on her Telegram channel.

Storozheve is on the border between the Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions in the area where Ukrainian troops announced the capture of several settlements the day before. The Ukrainian leadership has not unequivocally confirmed the start of the long-heralded major offensive to liberate the Russian-held territories.

According to military experts, however, this is already underway – the area gains underline this. In the photo posted by Deputy Defense Minister Maljar, soldiers with the national flag can be seen on a dirt village road in front of a destroyed cottage. The Deputy Minister thanked the 35th Marines Brigade for recapturing Storozheve.

The Ukrainian advance is along the Mokri Yaly River. Storozheve lies on the western side of the river, as does Makarivka, which had previously been reported as being recaptured. According to Kiev, the Russian troops operating in the area blew up a dam to slow down the Ukrainians’ further action. The effects of the dam breach are still unclear. Mokri Jaly is a relatively small river.
