Was that the changing of the guard on NCIS? Warning, spoilers follow for the new episodes of the crime series. In the current 19th season, which is currently being broadcast on Sat.1, longtime boss Gibbs is leaving his team to spend his retirement in Alaska. Until now, however, it was assumed that it was only a matter of time before the Special Agent in Charge would return to fight crime again. Now, however, the story about his successor took a turn that could mean the end for Gibbs.
“NCIS” – No more room for Gibbs?
There was no lack of action in the episode “All Hands”. A supposed black op team hijacks a research vessel. Parker, Torres and company set out to stop him, but the two-man army is always one step ahead of them. Knight and Torres can be captured while Parker secretly crawls through the air shafts to free them.
What everyone involved doesn’t know: The two villains only wanted to use the action to get NCIS to fly in with a Navy helicopter in order to then steal it. And that’s how it happens, but nobody has to reckon without Parker disguised as John McClane. Hiding in the helicopter, he stows away with the fake Black Op soldiers to a warehouse. This is filled to the brim with stolen military equipment and vehicles. Parker manages to draw attention to himself with the heli’s communication devices. The hall is stormed by real soldiers this time and the villains have been put a stop to.
There is no question that Parker took a risk in this case, which is why he is promptly summoned to Director Vance’s office. He put both himself and the team in great danger, but Parker only replies that it was the only way to protect his team. And there we have it: his team. For the first time, Parker refers to the group around McGee, Palmer and Co. as “his team”. So far he has not been able to get used to this idea and has avoided such designations – until now.
Where’s the room for Gibbs now? With the second half of season 19 already airing in the US, it’s entirely possible that actor Mark Harmon will return for a case, but then skip season 20 altogether. At least at work it is hardly needed anymore. A return would only be nice for the fans to see.
