nearly 2,500 people evacuated as a precaution on the tourist island of Corfu

More than 2,500 people were evacuated as a precaution overnight in Corfu, Greece, where a fire is raging in the north of this very touristic island, a spokesperson for the firefighters announced on Monday July 24 to Agence Fance-Presse.

The forest fire in the north of the island caused “the preventive evacuation of 2,466 people” overnight from Sunday to Monday, said Yannis Artopios, stressing that so far there had been no houses or hotels destroyed.
