“Need your help” – Man (64) transferred 35,000 euros to the wrong daughter

Due to an emergency, a father wanted to help his supposed offspring. But the money only went to fraudsters. The victims fell for the criminals’ trick twice.

They are actually simple insults that should have been known by now. And yet criminals always manage to take money out of their victims’ pockets. Sometimes even a lot of money, as a recent case from a small town on the Danube in the Krems district shows. A 64-year-old there received a text message. Apparently from his daughter. She has a new cell phone and urgently needs financial help to get started in her new job. After several messages on WhatsApp, the man finally agreed. He paid no less than 35,000 euros into a total of three Austrian accounts. Only then did he call his daughter using the known number – and then realized that he had been tricked. Similar case in the Waldviertel A woman from the Waldviertel only fared slightly better. She received a message from her supposed son. He urgently needs money because his account has been blocked. The woman transferred a total of 8,400 euros to two accounts. She also filed a complaint when it was already too late.
