It may be written by a master thriller, Harlan Coben, but Don’t Walk Away has a pretty big plot hole…
Do not stray has imposed itself in the top 10 of Netflix as soon as it was put online. Harlan Coben’s series has found its audience, however it will not have escaped the fans that there are some gaps in the script. More than a lacuna, this is rather a gaping hole. So much so that it’s hilarious.
The series follows three people who lead separate lives but are actually somehow connected by past crimes and sinister dramas. Megan (Cush Jumbo), Ray (Richard Armitage) and Detective Broome (James Nesbitt) end up crossing paths after a man named Carlton Flynn goes missing. And the trio are forced to take drastic action as the past comes back to haunt them.
Without being crime specialists, or even script doctors – those experts who supervise and help write a screenplay – the fans of the series quickly spotted the hole in the plot concerning the character of Megan (and who was previously called Cassie).
We learn it quickly: Megan previously worked as a stripper in the box named Vipers and was called Cassie at the time. After a “drama”, she decides to change her life and becomes the model of the perfect mother in her chic suburbs, under the name of Megan. However, as some fans have pointed out, it’s no surprise her old life is catching up with her, since she doesn’t seem to have left her that far behind…
“My favorite part of #don’tgoaway this is when Megan is so shocked that people from her past found her with her new identity after moving 2 minutes around the corner“wrote a tweet.
“Ok, but the main plot hole in Don’t Walk Away is that Cassie ‘ran away’ to start a new life as Megan, but she literally lives on the same street… of course #neteloignepas” laughs another.
“Did Cassie/Megan even walk away? It’s like she just crossed the bridge and changed her hair color” underlines the latter very rightly.
Indeed, Harlan Coben may have taken his title, Don’t Walk Away, a little too literally…
