Netflix: despite terribly bad reviews and ratings, this film is a hit around the world

It is more and more common to see movies or series that accumulate hours of viewing rise in the top Netflix while subscribers strongly criticize them. John Cena and Jackie Chan’s film is no exception.

Netflix scored a bargain by rescuing the action flick Project X-Traction starring Jackie Chan and John Cena as it wandered in limbo for five years. But as we see more and more often with films and series scheduled on Netflix, the feature film can accumulate the most catastrophic comments and ratings, this in no way hinders its success.

The film arrived on the platform on July 28 and for its second week of exploitation, it is at the top of the international top 10 of films in English, as can be seen on the Netflix press site.

It has 23.6 million views between July 31 and August 6 for a total of 40.5 million hours viewed! Project X-Traction is in the top 10 movies in 74 countries and it holds the number one spot in 45 of those countries.

It is surprising to note that Project X-Traction has been seen so much, while being mostly decried by the public. On AlloCiné, the average of the film directed by Scott Waugh displays 2.0 out of 5 for 218 ratings at the time of writing these lines.

Obviously, the headlining presence of Jackie Chan – the famous actor from Hong Kong who made his way to Hollywood – and John Cena – a former superstar wrestler who succeeded in his conversion to the cinema – is not unrelated to these impressive numbers.

What is Project X-Traction about?

At the start of the film, former soldier Luo Feng (Jackie Chan) leads a private security group in a war-torn Middle East to rescue a group of scientists from a threatened oil refinery. The only way out for the caravan of buses carrying hundreds of refinery workers and their families is the highway of death.

There, the buses are stormed by a group of well-equipped and trained mercenaries, led by Chris Van Horne (John Cena) and his brother Henry (Amadeus Serafini), who manage to capture the lead scientist and others.

Chris was tricked by Henry into participating in the raid under false pretenses. It turns out that Henry is working for the villainous Owen Paddock (Pilou Asbaek), who is behind the raid on the oil refinery. Luo Feng and Chris will have to team up to save the civilians, and both have personal interests at stake.

If you want to make up your own mind, Project X-Traction is still available on Netflix.
