Unfortunately, it is a reputation that Netflix has not always offered good exclusive films despite colossal resources: one of the best examples is called Red Alert and was released in 2021. Imagine that despite the criticism, it was a real cardboard.

The blockbuster in its purest form

When it comes to making films, Netflix is generally not afraid to spend a lot of money to give itself the best possible showcase. The problem is that many feature films have also been very poorly received by critics: just look at the very recent Rebel Moon by Zack Snyder (31 on Metacritic!) or Red Notice, released in 2021, which peaks at 37 on the famous platform. On Allociné, which lists opinions from French media, it is a little better with 2.3/5 for a dozen reviews.

The pitch? John Hartley (Dwayne Johnson), an FBI profiler, goes to help Interpol agent Urvashi Das (Ritu Arya) to investigate the disappearance of relics of unknown value: these have obviously been stolen by a thief named Nolan Booth (Ryan Reynolds), while another thief (Gal Gadot) also takes part in this treasure race. A very mainstream action film with a five-star cast and despite the catastrophic reviews from the press, we have to believe that this formula was enough for the audience which allowed stratospheric audience scores.

Stars in the eyes

So to speak, Red Notice was a real hit. When we look at the top of the platform’s history in the category of films, and more precisely those in English, Red Alert was the most viewed in the 28 days following its arrival with 364,020,000 hours of viewing. Likewise, it is also the most watched feature film on Netflix, with 454,200,000 hours of total viewing.

Fortunately for the company, we want to say, since the budget was still 200 million dollars – one of the largest ever allocated for a film by the American company.

Therefore, the opportunity is ripe to remember that in 2022, the production of two sequels has been confirmed, which will be shot one after the other with always the same Hollywood stars. Rawson Marshall Thurber, the director of this first opus, will be there again : suffice to say that we expect a more or less similar result. In the same vein, we remind you that Rebel Moon Part 2 will arrive on April 19.
