Netflix: Fewer films in the advertising subscription – Sony hits like “Gran Turismo” and “No Hard Feelings” are not included in the savings tariff

When the advertising subscription was introduced – back then as a basic subscription with advertising – Netflix explained that some titles might not be available in this subscription model in the future. For a long time, however, subscribers had access to the full program and the standard subscription with advertising was a very inexpensive subscription alternative if advertising freedom and 4K resolution were not important to them.

However, that has now changed, at least in the USA. Without prior notice, Sony Pictures films and series were removed from the standard subscription with advertising. Although they can still be found, the text panel “Not available in an ad-supported tariff due to licensing restrictions” indicates that a higher-priced subscription would be necessary.

Are other studios following suit?

This restriction affects films such as “No Hard Feelings”, “Gran Turismo”, “A Man Called Otto”, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”, “Morbius”, “Bullet Train”, “The Equalizer 3″, among others ” and “Thanksgiving”. For example, the series affected include “The Walking Dead” and “Peaky Blinders”.

It is not yet known whether and when these titles will disappear from the advertising subscription program in Germany. When asked, Netflix told us that certain titles are not offered in this country either, depending on the individual licensing situation, but did not name any specific films. A significant loss of value for the popular subscription model with advertising.
